The first to establish a land-based cultivation system of seaweed in Denmark was Alge Center Danmark, and now Pure Algae Denmark takes the stage with Denmark’s first-ever commercial system.
The idea for the enterprise had its genesis when Esben Rimi Christiansen published his Master’s thesis focusing on the potential of seaweeds, particularly sea lettuce, in public health and sustainability.
From here he began his collaboration with some of the finest researchers from Denmark, who are experts in seaweed. Among these are Annette Bruhn and Lone Thybo Mouritsen from Alge Center Danmark. Both are now part of the company’s advisory board.
