What if seaweed could deliver all its health benefits - without tasting like seaweed?
A customer came to us with a specific challenge: they wanted to utilize the health benefits of Ulva, but without its characteristic salty, marine flavour. The goal was to make seaweed applicable in a broader range of food products where that taste would not naturally fit.
Small Laboratory Setup - Large Kelp Production Potential
A compact 48 L gametophyte laboratory setup can potentially produce enough biomass to seed more than 13 km of kelp cultivation line every three weeks. Based on SMART TANG experiments conducted at Aarhus University, the results demonstrate how small-scale hatchery systems can support large-scale kelp farming operations through efficient gametophyte production.
Vegetative Cultivation and Domestication
At Pure Algae, we see this every day. Tanks, sensors and infrastructure can be optimized to a high degree, but without stable and high-performing biological material, even the most advanced setup will struggle to deliver consistent results…
Like most innovations, it started out with a simple dilemma
When our founder Esben started developing our land-based systems for seaweed cultivation, he started out with the traditional approach - deep, quadratic tanks and wide, shallow raceways. But he soon realized…
Are you familiar with ECA water?
We have a big secret we think more people in aquaculture and seaweed production should know about. It is simple but effective and we recommend it for all of our own systems…
How is Seaweed Sustainable?
Algae (and seaweed) may in many ways be regarded as the lungs of the sea – in continuation of this, they may even be simultaneously seen as the liver or kidneys of it. If cultivated in an ethical manner…
The EU is currently one of the world’s biggest seaweed importers
Most of the seaweed is produced in Asia, despite the fact that Europeans could make a huge profit from producing it themselves and not to mention getting the chance to contribute to the sustainable and climate friendly development…
The art of simplicity is a puzzle of complexity…
Here is a glimpse directly into the engine room of Pure Algae, where Mads, project development lead and Martin is currently working on assembling our patented seaweed nursery unit for the Danish seaweed company Dansk Tang to test…
